WINDOWS 10 Gets Support for Mixed Reality
10-Apr-2017
Redmond-Washington Microsoft is planning to launch its cutting-edge update of its operating system, Windows 10, on April, 11th 2017. The company asserted that work is under way to include Mixed Reality (MR) support within the coming update to the operating system. Moreover, all Windows 10 users will receive such support at no extra cost.
This might be of no significance for consumers at present since the first devices to benefit from the support of the operating system for this technology are a range of devices, such as virtual reality glasses which are offered to the company by the partners such as Acer. These devices are supposed to be launched during the holiday season.
In October 2016, Microsoft unveiled a new bold vision for its newest operating system, Windows 10. This will be realized through the new update called "Innovators Update". Indeed, the mixed reality technology played a key role in that update announcement, and, finally it is the right time to launch it.
During the coming weeks and months, developers will be able to obtain the Developers Version of Acer's Windows 10 Mixed Reality Technology. This will enable them to experience and dive deep into the depth of such an experience to start creating the appropriate content for this kind of glasses featured by six degrees of freedom.
The new system update includes many novel features that Windows 10 users can get. Some of these features might go beyond the possibilities of mixed reality when they arrive. For example, 3D content creation feature comprises the largest part of the update. Through this update, new applications could be provided, such as 3D Paint application.
As for Microsoft, it is considered a further step which makes it closer to its ultimate goal of the actual mixed reality through its HoloLens which is currently available for developers and businesses at $3,000.
Following its update and being used by Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, users can still use glasses through various applications. However, those companies have not announced any plans so far to integrate their glasses with the virtual reality with the operating system itself.
Not all Windows devices have the privilege of the mixed-reality support feature. For example, Project Scorpio, the upgraded version of the XBOX1 gaming platform, is expected to be equipped with the support of mixed content during 2018.
